Chrome Hearts makes four main kinds of headwear: trucker hats, structured baseball caps, bucket hats and beanies. Most trucker hats and baseball caps are adjustable, a smaller number are fitted to an exact head size, and many carry a small sterling silver button on the crown. Before you buy, settle three things: which style you want, whether it is adjustable or fitted, and what condition the hat is in.

Once Legos is an independent NYC reseller of pre-owned Chrome Hearts and is not affiliated with Chrome Hearts. This guide draws on public product descriptions, fashion press and the hats we handle, and it stays on styles, sizing and care. For legit-checking, see our separate guide on how to tell if a Chrome Hearts hat is real.

What makes a Chrome Hearts hat recognizable

Chrome Hearts started in a Los Angeles garage in 1988, and its reputation was built on leather and sterling silver. Fashion press now lists its trucker hats, covered in gothic lettering, among the label's most widely recognizable items. The hats borrow from the rest of the brand in a few consistent ways.

  • Gothic lettering and motifs: the blackletter CH or full brand name, cemetery crosses, the plus-sign motif, daggers, and on some trucker hats a Hollywood patch.
  • Silver hardware: a .925 sterling silver button on top of the crown is a common detail. The brand's December 2020 CH Hat release, for example, was reported as a five-panel structured cap with an adjustable snapback and a .925 sterling silver button, labeled made in the USA.
  • Collaboration and line designs: pieces from the Matty Boy line, such as trucker hats with the chomper emblem, sit alongside the core CH designs.

The main Chrome Hearts hat styles

Trucker hats

The trucker is the style most people mean when they say Chrome Hearts hat. It follows the classic trucker shape, a cap with a mesh back and a button on top, and adds the brand's details. The CH Hollywood trucker, for instance, pairs a white foam front panel with a black mesh back and brim, an embroidered CH patch flanked by plus motifs, and a sterling silver top button. Other versions use cemetery crosses, leather patches or Matty Boy artwork. Trucker hats are generally adjustable, which makes them the most forgiving style to size. You can see current examples on our trucker hats page.

Baseball caps

Baseball caps are the structured, solid-front style: a firmer crown than a trucker, a curved or flat brim, and embroidery in the brand's gothic logos, daggers or crosses. They come in materials such as wool and denim. Many have an adjustable snapback or back strap. A smaller group are fitted, meaning sized to an exact head measurement with a closed back and no adjuster. A grey and black wool CH cap we have listed in size 7 3/8 is one example. Our baseball hats page lists both kinds, with the size shown on each piece.

Bucket hats

Bucket hats use softer, unstructured materials. Retail listings describe a cashmere version and a leather version with cross patches and silver-tone dagger hardware. Without a stiff crown to hold the shape, fit depends on the label size and the actual measurements, so ask for the inside circumference before buying. Any bucket hats in stock are filed under bucket hats in our hats section.

Beanies

Beanies are the knit caps, and cashmere is one well-documented version. A Big Daddy cashmere beanie, for example, is described with a folded cuff jacquard-woven with gothic crosses and CH lettering and a sterling silver detail at the top. Knits stretch, so a beanie is usually the easiest hat to size. Our beanies page shows what is in hand now.

Fitted vs adjustable: how Chrome Hearts hat sizing works

Most Chrome Hearts trucker hats are one size with a snapback adjuster, and our trucker listings are typically marked OS for one size. With an adjustable hat, the thing to check is the range of the adjuster against your own head, not a label number.

Fitted caps work differently, so the number on the label matters. New Era's size guide describes a fitted cap as sized to an exact head circumference in eighth-inch increments, with a closed back and no adjustable hardware. As a reference point, it gives size 7 3/8 as 23 1/8 inches, or 58.7 cm, around the head.

How to measure your head for a fitted cap

  1. Use a flexible tape measure, or a piece of string and a ruler.
  2. Place it in the middle of your forehead, where the sweatband will sit, about 1 inch above your eyebrows.
  3. Wrap it level around your head, over the widest part at the back and above your ears.
  4. Note the measurement in inches or centimeters, and measure twice.
  5. If you land between sizes, round up. A fitted cap that is slightly roomy is wearable; one that is too tight is not.

If a listing gives only the label size, such as 7 3/8, and you want certainty, message the team before you buy and ask for the inside circumference of the sweatband. All sales are final, so it is worth settling fit first. Our FAQ page covers how condition and returns work.

Checking condition on a pre-owned hat

Each listing carries one of five condition grades: Brand New, Excellent, Great, Good or Fair. A grade is a summary, so it helps to know where hats actually show wear.

  • Sweatband and underside of the brim: staining and odor show up here first.
  • Brim: bends, creases or cracking, especially on structured caps.
  • Front panel and embroidery: fraying threads, lifted patches, faded color, and on trucker hats the condition of the foam front and the mesh.
  • Silver button: it should be secure, with even dark oxidation rather than dents or damage.
  • Closure: a snapback should click and hold, and a strap should sit flat.

Our FAQ states that pieces with structural damage are not listed, so the grades describe wear rather than breakage. Look at every photo on a listing, since the photos are of the exact piece.

Real or fake: where to start

Real-versus-fake is one of the most frequent searches around Chrome Hearts hats, and the honest answer is that no single check settles it. Embroidery spelling and spacing, the build of the button, interior labels and overall construction have to be judged together, ideally in hand. Our FAQ lists common red flags such as incorrect stamp fonts, unusually light weight, spelling errors and poor-quality hang tags. The hat guide linked above goes through the details. Everything we list is in hand in New York and inspected before it is listed.

Caring for a Chrome Hearts hat

Hat maker Brixton's care guidance is simple. Spot clean with a cloth dampened with warm water, avoid harsh cleaning chemicals, and let the hat air dry in an open space. Do not use a dryer or high heat, and do not dry clean, because interlinings and brims can distort. Store it out of direct sunlight, and for long-term storage stuff the crown with tissue paper to hold the shape.

That guidance does not include machine washing, and with a sterling button, a leather patch or a foam front panel we would not try it.

The silver button

Wipe the button gently with a soft cloth. Dark oxidation in the recesses is normal on Chrome Hearts silver, and polishing removes it permanently. Avoid silver dips and abrasive polish, and do not polish black-finished hardware, which can remove the finish. Our guide to cleaning Chrome Hearts silver covers the details.

Cashmere and knit beanies

The Woolmark guidance for wool knitwear is to hand wash inside out in lukewarm water of about 30 degrees Celsius with a mild detergent, rinse, and dry flat rather than tumble drying. If a beanie has silver or leather details, spot clean it instead of soaking it, and check the care label first.

Buying, trying on and finding a specific hat

Start with the hats and beanies section, where every piece is listed with its size and condition grade. If you would rather judge fit in person, our private NYC Showroom lets you try pieces on by appointment only, with no walk-ins. And if you have a hat to sell, send photos through Sell To Us for a same-day offer.

The bottom line

Decide the style first, then check whether it is adjustable or fitted, and measure your head if the label shows a number. Inspect the sweatband, brim, embroidery and button, and care for the hat with a damp cloth and air rather than a washer. Do that and a Chrome Hearts hat is one of the easiest pieces in the brand to wear and keep in good shape.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

Are Chrome Hearts hats adjustable or fitted?
Both exist, but most trucker hats and many baseball caps are adjustable, with a snapback or back strap, and our trucker listings are typically marked OS for one size. A smaller group of caps are fitted to an exact head size, such as a size 7 3/8 wool cap. Check the size line on the listing, because it will say which kind it is.
What size Chrome Hearts hat should I get?
For an adjustable hat, one size is the answer. For a fitted cap, measure your head about 1 inch above your eyebrows and compare it to the size chart. New Era's guide gives 7 3/8 as 23 1/8 inches or 58.7 cm, and recommends rounding up if you are between sizes. All sales are final, so check measurements before you buy.
Can you wash a Chrome Hearts hat?
We would not machine wash one. Hat maker guidance is spot cleaning with a cloth dampened with warm water, avoiding harsh chemicals, and air drying without a dryer or high heat. With a sterling button, leather patch or foam front, gentle spot cleaning is the safer route. Cashmere beanies can be hand washed in lukewarm water and dried flat if the label allows.
What is the silver button on top of a Chrome Hearts hat?
It is a small sterling silver button on the crown, a detail reported on the brand's trucker hats, baseball caps and some beanies, which ties the hat to Chrome Hearts' silverwork. The brand's December 2020 CH Hat release was described with a .925 sterling silver button. It should be secure and can show dark oxidation, which is normal for silver.
How can you tell if a Chrome Hearts hat is real?
No single check is conclusive. Look at the embroidery spelling and spacing, the construction of the button, the interior labels and the overall build together, and have it checked in hand if the stakes are high. Common red flags include incorrect fonts, unusually light weight, spelling errors and poor-quality hang tags. See our dedicated hat authentication guide for more detail.

Yes. Once Legos has a private, appointment-only showroom in New York's Financial District where you can try pieces on. Book a slot through the website, and the exact address is sent on WhatsApp after booking. Walk-ins are not accepted.
